Second Grade

Symmetrical Paintings.

Second grade students reveiwed the concept of symmetry to start the school year. They defined a line of symmetry and talked about how lines, shapes and colors on either side of the line were matches, or mirror images. They created their symmetrical paintings by first folding a line of symmetry on their paper, either vertically or horizontally. Next, they used oil pastel to create a design on one side of the fold. The paper was then closed and the oil pastel was printed on the other side. The resulting symmetrical image was carefully painted with tempera cakes. Students did a great job painting and cleaning up! Way to go second grade!
